So many wonderful things to tell and yet my brain is in a deep sleep as I just received a wonderful Ayurvedic treatment. But as this is my only day on-line I will do that best I can.
It is hot, hot, hot in India, and the blessed rains that come occasionally make it blissfully cool. Then the killer muzzies (mosquitos) come out. They are fat and blood thirsty and don't just bite once. They like to take about 15 chomps per body part before they've had their fill. However, the positive is that the itching only lasts about 30 min and then subsides. Now the ant bites on the other had are a completely different story. I have several gaping wounds (ok that maybe a slight exaggeration) on my leg where ants got the better of me. Some lovely Vy-John cream, though, and they are healing nicely.
Now as for the rubber hose up my nose. We got to practice 6 Kriyas yesterday which are "cleansings" of the body. We start with the eyes to the nose, mouth, throat, stomach, and fortunately stopped there and didn't have to do the, well use your imagination. So part of the neti cleansing of the nose if slowly inserting a small rubber tube into one nostril, pushing it down the throat until you can stick your fingers back there and pull it out of your mouth. You then floss the nasal passage. The gagging and hacking that took place with 100 of us doing this along the shore of the lake was one sight to behold. I did get a great picture, so hold onto your hats until I get that uploaded. I won't go into details on the other cleansing except to say that I did try to swallow a 3' long piece of cloth which would then be pulled back out to remove particles that get stuck in our system. Couldn't get it too far down, though. The reaction was to keep pushing it back up. Yum!
OK, a brief update on my slight stomach "issue". The whole ashram had some issues last weekend and it took most of us about 3 days to overcome it. Wasn't too bad, so I won't count this as my guaranteed turn at dissentary (no idea how to spell that right now), so hold onto your hats for that story, too.
Life is still wonderful here. Can't believe that TTC is half over. May stay at the ashram for awhile longer after the big party at Varkala. Several of us are considering going on staff for a few months.
Wish I could be more clear headed, but brain is very fuzzy so I'm going to go rest on the beach.
If there is anything you want to specifically know about for next week, please let me know. Otherwise, you're stuck with the pleasant details of the above.
Find what truly makes you happy, not just in the moment but truly deep down to your core makes you happy and then focus on that with all you have. Do not be distracted by the temporary things in life. They will come and go. True happiness will last forever.
Om shanti,
Mandy

Oh, my! I'm sure I would fail the cleansing activities ;-) so happy to hear the experience seems to be as wonderful as you had hoped. We were on the beach in Mexico last week relaxing - but no tubes up/down our throats! :-) Enjoying your posts!
ReplyDeleteMosquitoes and ants, oh my! Reading about your gaping wounds and then the potential exaggeration maybe me think of that "ravine" you fell in years ago when we were camping. I have to agree with the other Becky that I too would have failed miserably with those cleansing rituals!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to read about your adventures though and love the pictures. Glad you are having such an amazing time and I can't wait to read more about your trip!!
